oh, and...

a little belated, but HERE WE GO!

the month in review

hello abandoned non-existent blog audience. I am back. I've missed you, too.

Let's see... Spent a couple of weeks in NYC feeling simultaneously fabulous and weary. I saw some great things which I noted here as I saw them, but in the end, I'm too whimsical at this point in my life for all that concrete and energy. I guess the steel is starting to seep into my blood.

When I was a Freshman in college my directing professor said this: "If you can do anything else in the world, do it." I thought it was bohemian and inspiring. Now I see.

Finding a sustainable job in the arts without compromising your dreams is like trying to stay celibate after the invention of birth control: for most people, it just ain't gonna happen. Well, celibacy was never my thing... but man, this is tough going.

Resumes and networking and smiling and shaking the hands of people you are never going to see again because they have no intention of employing you...blah blah blah.

So, that's what you've been missing, my devoted blog readers.

In the unpaid world, the good news is this: my project, The Paper Riot Project, is up on its feet. So, while you're sitting at your desk reading & clicking away at this little slab of catharsis, click on this:

and read about what I've been doing.

notes from the underground

ok, ok, this blog thing is hard to keep up when not in an office on a regular basis.

here is what i have to share:

First, read my latest articles:

Dionysus, the Dualist

Pittsburgh Weddings

Spread the Love

Also, if you're in New York and have some free time in the next few days, go see the Walt Whitman exhibit at the public library on 5th ave. It's great... includes some original notes and early publications AND ::gasp:: the original last page of Kerouac's On the Road manuscript. do it.

humble return

oh dear blog, I apologize for the neglect. New York City will do that to you- force you to forget about the simple things. Besides that, though, I quit reading the news. the frustration was starting to give me wrinkles. I guess there's a visceral world right in front of my face that I forget about when I keep my head in a newspaper for too long.

Anyway, the new year is approaching and I have to say this:

don't walk, run.

don't breathe, gasp.

don't fall, crash.

don't eat it unless it tastes good.

don't do it unless it feels good.

just drink it.

bring it on, 2006.

hi ho.

oh why

choose between The Black Crowes at Madison Square Garden and Gov't Mule at the Beacon on New Year's Rockin' Eve?

oh why do you do this to me, ye gods?

cruelty, it is.

Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New 'Intelligent Falling' Theory

"Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, 'God' if you will, is pushing them down," said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University.
